West's Legal News
front page, January 10, 1997

This information is provided as an example of a product Chug Roberts designed and developed in the mid-1990s (front page for West's Legal News, Jan. 10, 1997 - WLN ceased publishing on Jan. 17, 1997). The trademarks are used in an editorial fashion and belong to their owners.

The left-hand navigation bar was active, and linked to all stories published that day in that area. A daily email alert sent subscribers the Top Stories page, with active links to the stories. The system was designed so that all hypertext links worked across media. Thus, a case tag could retrieve the cited case on the web or on WESTLAW, as well as being usable in print.

Several types of unique documents were created by WLN staff, including WLN Pathfinders, which were described by one attorney as "ALRs on steroids."

The Top Stories page was generated programmatically .

Note the appearance of Edupage, which was freely available via email and on the web. WLN enhanced Edupage with links to cited stories (if the cited stories were available on WESTLAW), and to related information.

Background discsssion of WLN is available here.
